Dolomite

What it is

Dolomite

Natural mineral formed by double calcium-magnesium carbonate (CaMg(CO₃)₂), processed by milling and classification. In agriculture it is used mainly as a liming amendment in acid soils, with the added benefit of supplying magnesium.

What it delivers

  • Corrects acidity and raises pH, like limestone.
  • Supplies calcium and magnesium in a single material.
  • Useful where analysis shows low magnesium or an unbalanced Ca/Mg ratio.
  • Improves base saturation of the exchange complex.
  • Progressive effect: depends on grind fineness, rate, moisture and incorporation.

Applications

Applications

  • 01

Acidity correction with simultaneous calcium and magnesium supply.

  • 02

Acid soils with magnesium deficit confirmed by analysis.

  • 03

    Crops with high magnesium demand.

  • 04

Base saturation improvement and liming programmes.

How it works

How it works

As a carbonate, it neutralises acidity and releases calcium and magnesium to the exchange complex. It is neither instant nor universal: in alkaline soils or soils with excess magnesium it may be unsuitable, so any recommendation must come from a soil analysis.

  1. 01

    CaMg(CO₃)₂

    Gradual dissolution in acid soils

  2. 02

    H⁺ → H₂O + CO₂

    Acidity corrected and pH rises

  3. 03

    Ca²⁺ + Mg²⁺

    Calcium and magnesium supplied together

  4. 04

    Mg / Clorofila

    Magnesium for chlorophyll synthesis
